Jessie Dixon

Bunker Hill 09/30/2022

Jessie Marie Dixon, 81, of Bunker Hill, IL, died at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, MO on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 2:30 pm.  She was born October 28, 1940, in Granite City, IL to Jesse Singleton & Evelyn Ely Singleton. 

She married Walter R. Dixon on January 12, 1957, in Batchtown, IL.  He preceded her in death on March 30, 2022. 

She worked several years at Bills IGA and the Ben Franklin store in Bunker Hill where she would share her love of sewing with the customers, she was an accomplished seamstress.  She had a love for flowers.  Many flowers adorned her yard and lake.  She was, as someone once said, a sparkling gem. 

Jessie and her husband, Walter were married 65 years.  Together they built a beautiful life, having 5 children who shared their enthusiasm for family. 

She was many things to many people.  Jessie was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and soon to be a great great-grandmother.  She was a dear daughter, sister, friend, coworker, and wonderful listener. 

She would talk to anyone and every one as if she had known them for ten years.  Jessie was a member of TOPS for many years, where she met many new friends to share her story and listen to theirs.  Jessie was a collector of beautiful dolls.  She had a best friend named Sampson, she adored him the little Shih Tzu, the love of her life.  She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Bunker Hill for 46 years, where she worshipped her God and listened to His word. 

She is survived by her children, Mark (Barbara) Dixon, of Hudson, FL, Susan Dixon of Bunker Hill, IL, Carey (Mary) Dixon of Fredericktown, MO, Sarah (Rolland) Meffert of Shipman, IL, Amy Miles of Brighton, IL, grandchildren, Ian, Reanna, Joshua, Brooke, Jonathan, Robert, Justin, Jessica, Jodie, Joel, Jayme, Jesse, Joseph, Lane, Valerie, Keith, Thomas, Samantha, and Wesley, 34 great grandchildren, sisters, Diane (Robert) Behme of Holiday Shores, IL, Janice (Larry) Card of Dorsey, IL, sister in law, Virginia Singleton of Moro, IL, many nieces and nephews and her dog, Sampson. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel, Molly, brother, Wayne Singleton, sisters-in-law, Lois Woelfel and her husband Steve Woelfel, Wanda Tepen and her husband, Vince Tepen, and mother-in-law and father in law, Ogal and Leon Dixon. 

Friends may call on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, from 4 pm - 8 pm at Kravanya Funeral Home, Bunker Hill, IL.  Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 1 pm at First Congregational Church, Bunker Hill, IL. 

The burial will be at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Bunker Hill, IL.
