Harold D. Smith, Sr, 85, of Gillespie, IL, died at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL on January 23, 2023, at 3:35 am. He was born October 1, 1937, in Gillespie, IL to Irvin Smith & Ruth Hazel Dillard Smith. He married Lindia M. Crocker Smith on July 25, 1959. He was a retired coal miner for Monterey Coal Co. He was a veteran of the US Navy after having served in Korea. Harold was a member of the UMWA. He loved trucks, fast cars, and western movies. He is survived by his spouse, Lindia Smith of Gillespie, IL, children, David (Tracy) Smith of Gillespie, IL, Barry Smith of Gillespie, IL, Lori (Joe) Sneed of Glen Carbon, IL, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, siblings, Ruth Ann Miller of Gillespie, IL, Junior Smith of Valley Park, MO, Ralph (Rose) Smith of East Alton, IL. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Harold Smith, Jr. Friends may call on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral services are Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 11:00 am at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie. Burial will be at Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville, IL.
