Gerald Metts

Gerald “Jerry” R. Metts, 73, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at Alton Memorial Hospital.Born February 3, 1950 in Alton, IL, he was the son of Ray and Lois (Graham) Metts.Jerry had been employed as an Operator at Amoco Refinery for 20 years.  He was also co-owner, with his wife Pauline, of Flowers and Garden City.  He enjoyed fishing and building and flying rc planes.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River, where he served as Chairperson on the Board of Properties.He married Pauline Pelan on January 26, 1982, in Wood River, she proceeded him in death in 2004.In addition to his wife, he was proceeded in death by; his parents; brother, Daniel Metts; and stepson, Frank Townsend.He is survived by; sister, Rebecca Sparr of East Alton; stepson, Dan Townsend of Wood River; two nieces, Sara Abbacchi and Rachel Jones; three great nephews, Lucas Abbacchi, Layton Jones, Carter Jones; one great niece, Claire Abbacchi and three step grandchildren.Visitation will be from 9-11 am, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River.Funeral services to follow at 11 am, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River. Pastor David Schultz will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River.  Marks Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
