Dana Ann Opfer, 59, passed away at 11:53 am on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 23, 1964, in Perryville, MO, to Edgar A. and Mayme Kathryn "Kitty" (Statler) Rutherford.
She married David Opfer on July 1, 1988, in LaMonte, MO. He survives.
Growing up, Dana would tagalong with her father on refrigeration and air conditioning jobs. She was an avid outdoors woman and loved fishing and hunting. Dana was very outgoing and had a huge heart. She would go out of her way to help anyone in need. Even with all of her sweetness, Dana was known for speaking her mind.
In addition to her husband, Dana is survived by a son, Wayne (Rachel) Opfer of Alton, a granddaughter, Rosalie Opfer; with another grandchild on the way; two sisters, Kathy Gilchrist of East Alton and Donna (Mark) Gola of Lawson, MO; a brother, Keith (Cynthia) Rutherford of Alton; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation rites were accorded.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until time of a Memorial Service at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
