Eugene Travers

Eugene Francis "Gene" Travers, 82, went to Heaven at 2:45 a.m., Sunday, March 17, 2024, at his residence.

He was born in Plainview, Illinois on August 5, 1941, the oldest of three children born to Glenn Randall and Ruth (Hurry) Travers.

He graduated in 1959 from Southwestern High School in Piasa, and soon went to work for Owens-Illinois in Godfrey, where he retired in 1996 after dedicating 36 years of service. He also enjoyed farming and raising cattle.

He married the former Margie Cummings on July 22, 1961 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, and together they have been blessed with almost 63 years of marriage and the joys of raising their four children.

Surviving is his wife, Margie Travers of Jerseyville; his four children and their spouses, Melody and Brad Russell, Joe and Lori Travers, Randy and Pam Travers, and Vicky and Bob Bray all of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Mike Russell, Brett Travers (Julie), Kylie Lahey, Chase Travers (Jade), Quentin Travers (Kelli), Dillon Travers (Liz), Trisha Travers, Tyler Travers (Grace), John Bray (Amber), and Libby Bray; 14 Great Grandchildren, Collin, Andrew, Will, Wyatt, Nora, Vince, Luke, Hattie, Olivia, Elliott, Maddi, Brooke, Brentley, and one more blessing due in May; one sister, Ruth Ann Brown (Bud) of Brighton, and two sister's in-law, Marilyn Wagenblast (Walter) of Jerseyville, and Charlyn Travers of California.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Randall Travers Jr., and a granddaughter, Samantha Nicole Russell.

A Prayer Service will take place at 3:30 p.m., Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, followed by visitation from 4 to 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville.

Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic School in Jerseyville.
