Shirley Holman

Shirley Diane Holman, age, 83, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, IL. Shirley was born on August 17, 1940, in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Calvin W. Elmore and Rosalee (Warmack) Elmore.

On February 3, 1960, Shirley Elmore married William “Bill” Richard Holman, the love of her life in Edwardsville, IL, and Bill passed away on September 8, 2018. Shirley retired from Reese Drug Store in Granite City, IL, after 20 plus years of dedicated service. She was a member of Granite City Eagles Aerie #1126 Ladies Auxiliary. Shirley enjoyed her days with Bill traveling and camping with the Renegades. She was also a huge Elvis fan, and she enjoyed playing solitaire on her phone, computer or with a deck of cards. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. Shirley loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Calvin L. Elmore; and by a grandson, Chris.

She is survived by her loving children, David (Linda) Holman of Granite City, IL, Connie (Jerry) Snider Flora of Granite City, IL, Kathy (Tom) Miles of Granite City, IL, Sharon (Chip) Lewis of Highland, IL, Richard (Elaine) Holman of Santee, CA and Terri Lynn (Darrell) Lund of Klmath Falls, OR; proud grandmother to  Christina, April, William, Holly, Cody, Jessica, Shawn, Meghen, Patrick, Rachel, Craig, Eva, Darlene, Tina, Tonya and Tasha; many great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. The memorial service will follow on Friday at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, American Diabetes Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
