
Carol Frances McClain, 81, died at 11:04 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2025 at SSM St. Joseph Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Born November 6, 1943 in Alton, she was the daughter of Eugene George Buckshot Jr. and Laverna “Maxine” (Smotts) Buckshot.
She was a substitute teachers’ aide for Alton High School and also worked for H & R Blocks and was a published poetry author. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Alton.
Surviving are three children, Robert Eugene Conner of Wood River, Babette Michelle Conner of East Alton, and Carie Diane Meadows of Wood River, 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Bobbie Curry of Alton and Marian Helen Dunston of Colorado Springs.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Anthony Charles Garris, Daniel Floyd McClain Jr., and Eric M. McClain, one brother, Ronald Eugene Buckshot, and three sisters, Edina Louise Davis, Rebecca Ann “Becky” Noble, and Sheila Margueritte Geabes. She was also preceded in death by two husbands; Thomas M. Conner and Cecil K. Meadows, a grandson, Jacob Cunningham, two brothers-in-law, John P. Dunston and Stanley M. Geabes, and one sister-in-law, Barbara A. (Jackson) Buckshot as well as one nephew, James Edgar Short.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2025 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Reverend Joe Shaw will officiate.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Alton.
