Elvin Roe, the son of Roe Hubert and Millie Dickson Cripe, was born July 13, 1938, west of Greenville. Elvin grew up in Bond County, attended the local schools, and graded from Mulberry Grove High School with the class of 1956.
Elvin married the love of his life Marian Sue Blankenship on December 14, 1957. They were married at the Mt. Moriah Church, where they were attending, and have enjoyed 67 years together.
Elvin started farming right after high school and has enjoyed it ever since. He and Sue opened Cripe Farm Supply and owned and operated that in Greenville for many years. Elvin joined the Greenville Fire Protection District and was a volunteer fire fighter in his younger days. He also was a trustee for LaGrange Township for many years and was on the ASC board. Needless to say, Elvin was a hard working and generous man.
He loved his family especially spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren. Elvin never passed up an opportunity to participate or watch a tractor drive, at 86 he was still a young farmer at heart. He and Sue were members of the Greenville First Christian Church.
Loving and dedicated husband to Sue, father to: Rodney (Debbie Whicker) Cripe of Greenville, Russell (Elayne) Cripe of Greenville and Robin (Jeff) Bohle of Greenville. Hero to his grandchildren: Cami (Denny) Glisson, Dorie Cripe, Amanda (Matt) Winka, Erin (Jake Ennen) Spratt, Katelyn (Cody) Kircher, Michael (Dodie) Cripe, Jonathon (Chelsie) Cripe, Jacob (Ryann) Bohle, Renee (Kaleb) Paul, and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Gene Perkins.
Elvin was the last of his siblings, preceded in death by Gerald Cripe, Lola Zeeb, Georgia Lurkins, Norma Stoecklin, Melba Perkins, Agnes Livingston, and sister Doris Cripe in infancy. He is also preceded in death by a granddaughter Christina Cripe in infancy.
