
Robert Frederick Miller, age 83 died at 9:23am on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at his residence.
Robert was born at St. joseph’s Hospital in Alton on April 10, 1941 the son of the later Robert G. and Dorothy H. (Mook) Miller. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grade School and Alton Senior High School.
At the age of 18 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1960 to 1964. During his lifetime he worked as a machinist, sold life insurance for Western Southern Life and was a salesman for Ray Gremli Chevrolet.
Robert’s real love was the United States Marine Corps and was a charter member for The Robert Wendle Detachment of the Marine Corps League in Jerseyville. Later he formed a detachment in Alton as well as Detachments in Greenville and Jacksonville, IL. He was active with The Devil Dogs, local Toys for Tots, as well as helping annually with Wreaths Across America. He later formed A Few Good Men Marines where he attended funerals of former marines giving a final salute. Robert was a lifelong member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Robert was saved from bachelorhood at the age of 29 when he married the love of his life, Adele (Lozier). Together they parented three daughters; Cathy, Diana and Cheryl. He was affectionally known as “Uncle Bob” by all who knew and loved him. He loved old westerns, war movies, his morning coffee and was known to drink a beer or two!
Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters; Catherine Gunderson (Greg), Diana Stanius and Cheryl Moeller, five grandchildren; Alec and Connor Gunderson, Noah, Maria and Luke Stanius, a brother in law; Stan Bosoluke and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Sharon Bosoluke, one brother; Donald Miller, son in law; Matthew Moeller, brother in law; Chuck Lozier, nephew; Scott Bosoluke and a niece; Tami Lozier.
Visitation will 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton with full military honors.
