Donald Dean Cloninger, 89, of Brighton, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 12, 1935, in Winchester, IL, the son of the late John and Lula (Boes) Cloninger.

Don married Sandra Clare on August 10, 1963, in Alton. She preceded him in death on November 26, 1994.

He graduated the Class of 1952 from Winchester High School, served our country in the United States Navy from December 1, 1957, to February 26, 1962, was an operator of the Power House at Ownes Illinois Glass Works for 30 years, and spent 10 years at SIUE Dental school.

Don is survived by two children Daniel Arnold and Melissa (Gary) Milligan both of Brighton; four grandchildren Bradley Arnold, Christy (Andy) Varble, Matthew (Jamie) Milligan, and Chelsey Witkowski; seven great grandchildren Amelia, Leighton, Lydia, Layla, James, Lainey, and Lillian; three siblings Edward (Retha) Cloninger, Marsha (John) Meyers, and Diane (Jay) Abbott.

He was preceded by his parents, John and Lula; wife, Sandra; siblings Robert (Amelia) Cloninger, Frances (John) Nichols, Charolette (Jr) Anders, Barbara (Jim) Ervan, James (Marylou) Cloninger, Carolyn (Bob) Wild, Marilyn (Orvel) Hayes, and Joyce (Myron) King.
Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of memorial service at 11 am on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton.

Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
