Lucille “Susie” Kress, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on April 20, 2025, at Alton Memorial Hospital at the age of 71. She will be severely missed by her family and friends.
Born in August of 1953 in Carrollton, IL, Susie grew up to be a kind and compassionate person who touched the lives of many. She married Steve Kress on April 24, 1971. Susie loved her family deeply and was especially proud of her grandchildren.
Susie served the county of Calhoun in the County Clerk's office for over 32 years. She started in January of 1977 and became the County Clerk in December of 1986 and remained in the position until she retired in June of 2009. After retirement Susie enjoyed spending time with her family and following her grandchildren to their various activities. Susie was a good cook who loved to prepare food for her family.
Susie is survived by her husband, Steve; children, Stephanie Sievers (Chad), Adam Kress, and daughter-in-law, Tammy Kress; grandchildren, Alyssa Kress, Haylee Kress, Landon Sievers, Jake Kress, and Carson Sievers. Susie was preceded in death by her son, Darren; her parents, Paul and Musetta Siemer; and her sister, Laura Funk.
There will be a visitation for family and close friends from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Gress, Kallal, & Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin, IL on April 24, 2025, with the burial immediately following at St. Barbara's Cemetery in Batchown, IL.
