John F. Yates, 91, of Alton, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025.
He was born in Ridgely, Tennessee, on September 15, 1933, the son of Theron and Dorothy (Law) Yates.
John is a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Teamsters Local 525 of Alton, at RCS Construction as a dispatcher for 30 years, before his retirement in 1998. John enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals Baseball games and visiting with his grandkids.
He is survived by his significant other, Betty Dale; a son, Danny Yates; siblings, Darrell Yates, Lanny Yates, Gary Yates, Sonjia Peacock, Julie Price, and Pam Sczwargulski; grandchildren, Kindra, Lisa, Vanessa, Dakota, Jessica, Jason, Craig Jr, Connor, Daniel, Faith, and Angela; and several great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamara Tannahill; and two brothers, David Yates, and Michael Yates.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5 until time of service at 6:45 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, Pastor John Sanders will officiate.
Private inurnment and graveside service will take place at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
