Evelyn Lee (Holden) Stankoven, 82, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, at Keystone Place at Magnolia Commons. She was born on July 29, 1942, in Herrin, Illinois.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Richard Stankoven, and her parents, Edwin Holden and Darlene Archibald.
She is survived by her sister Sandra Skeldon; nephews Robert (Justine) Young, Alan (Kelley) Young, Lonnie (Rhonda) Manalia, and Ron Manalia; and nieces Brandy (Dan Fisher) Bruckert and Shanna Bruckert.
Those who knew Evelyn will remember her infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor. She had a deep love for dancing and music that stayed with her throughout her life. Even as her health declined, she continued to connect with others through song and dance, bringing joy wherever she went.
A woman of many talents, Evelyn had gifts in both music and art. Above all, she was a devoted aunt who played an active role in the lives of her nieces and nephews as they grew up. Her love extended beyond blood relations-when they became adults and started families of their own, she welcomed each new spouse with open arms and showered their children with the same love and affection she had always given.
The family extends special gratitude to Evelyn's devoted friend, Kevin Cavanaugh-Tucker, who has been a constant source of support since Aunt Evie returned from South Carolina in 2019.
We would also like to thank Davod Porter, and the staff at Keystone Place at Magnolia Commons in Glen Carbon IL, for the love, care, and support they have provided to Evelyn since 2019.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Cemetery in Gillespie, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Kravanya Funeral Home of Gillespie, Illinois is in charge.
