Richard Kirchner

Hardin 05/19/2025

Richard Eugene “Dick” Kirchner, died at 2:36 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2025, in the Emergency Room at Thomas H. Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.

Born on December 22, 1947, in Carrollton, he was the son of the late Paul and Maura (Paulselli) Kirchner. A lifelong outdoorsman with a big laugh and an even bigger heart, Dick spent his working career as a Site Technician for the State of Illinois Department of Natural Resources. His work wasn’t just a job—it reflected his deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors.

He loved to hunt, fish, and spend as much time as he could outside. Whether it was casting a line, walking the woods, or sharing stories around a fire, Dick was in his element when he was under the open sky. Known for his outgoing personality and ever-ready sense of humor, he could always be counted on for a good-natured joke or a witty remark that kept everyone smiling.

On November 20, 1971, Dick married Susan Roberts at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and together their marriage was blessed with two sons.

Surviving are his son, Jarrod Kirchner of Godfrey; and two granddaughters, Kiley Elizabeth Kirchner and Aubrey Marie Reno.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian Thomas Kirchner; a brother, James Kirchner; and a brother-in-law, Michael Wombles.

Private graveside services will be held at St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville has been entrusted with arrangements.
