
Richard “Hawk” Sholar, Sr., 68, passed away unexpectedly at 11:14 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at his residence after a short illness.
He was born June 13, 1956 in Alton, the son of the late Dexter Atwood and Norma Lee (Schelle) Sholar. He was the owner of Hawk Amusement in Alton, where he ran local Dart Leagues and many other game operations for years.
Surviving are one son, Richard “Rich” Sholar, Jr. of Alton, two brothers, Michael “Elwood” Sholar, John Sholar (Shannon) three sisters, Katherine “Kat” Brunaugh (Mike), Sandra “Sam” Rynders and Rhonda Elmendorf (Paul), numerous nieces and nephews great nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father and one brother, Edward “Fast Eddie” Sholar Sr.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
