
William R. “Buddy” Cole, 84, of Swansea, IL, born Saturday, December 21, 1940, in Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Grand Manor Senior Living in Swansea, IL.
Bill grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Brownstown during his freshman year of high school. He went on to attend the University of Illinois and was a proud, active member of the Nabor House Fraternity.
After college, he married Judy Cole and returned to Brownstown. There, he briefly taught agriculture at Brownstown High School for a year, then worked for a year at Farm Service in Olney, Illinois. But Bill’s heart was always in farming. He soon returned full-time to Brownstown, where he built a thriving and diverse operation that included grain, livestock, and a Christmas tree farm.
A man of deep faith and service, Bill was a longtime deacon at Liberty Christian Church and served as president of the Brownstown High School Board. In his younger years, he also loved playing basketball, whether recreationally or with friends.
He was a devoted husband, father, and community member. His impact on his family, church, and community will not be forgotten.

- Two daughters who carry on his legacy of dedication, hard work, and love:
- Amy K. (Jeremy) Holtrop of Belleville, IL
- Susan Cole of Centralia, IL
- Three grandchildren:
- Cloe Isabella Holtrop
- Gabriella Mae Holtrop
- Cole Louis Holtrop
