
Anita Atchison, 65, of Greenville, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Mason District Hospital in Havana, Illinois.
Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Greenville Free Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Carolyn Strigglers officiating. Interment will follow at Mulberry Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family to help create a legacy in Anita’s honor.
Anita was born on September 27, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri. She obtained her education from local schools. For many years, she worked at Carlisle SynTec in Greenville. She was the founder, owner, operator, and author of Inspired by God Prayer Coverings. Anita had a passion for writing and inspiring others, and she led a Bible class at the Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
On October 5, 2000, Anita married Phineas Anthony Atchison. Together, they shared a love of drag racing. Anita proudly served as crew chief and also ministered at the racetrack. Above all, her greatest calling was serving the Lord. She found purpose in Christ and dedicated a life to serving the needs of others. She loved fishing, hunting, playing pickleball and golf, spending time with friends, and especially cherishing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Anita is survived by her beloved husband, Anthony; her children: Damon White of Texas, James Sledge Jr. of Centralia, IL, and Torey Sledge (Brooke) of Morton, IL; and Anthony’s children: Keisha Samuels of Michigan, Phineas Anthony Atchison Jr. (Kortney) of Greenville, Latisa Hediger (Brian) of Greenville, and Derek Atchison (Ryan) of Greenville. She was a loving grandmother to Mariah, Dezeree, Atlantis, Kiera, Ryleigh, Alexa, Preston, Ashton, Breighton, Khloe, Quinton, Kingston, Nichelle, Nichole, Andre, Haylee, Hayden, Kobe, Kambree, Arlo, and four great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings: Earnest White (Denise), Jerry White (Cynthia), Donnell White (Patrice), Mary Atchison, Jacqueline Atchison, and Glenn White (Shawna).
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest White Jr. and Jacqueline; and sisters, Beverly Jason and Paula Bryant.
Anita’s life was one of service, inspiration, and deep love for her faith and family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
