James Taylor

Jerseyville 07/04/2025

James “Jim” “Highroller” Floyd Taylor, 79, passed away peacefully at 7:13 a.m. on Friday, July 4, 2025, with his family by his side.

He was born on November 14, 1945, in Carrollton, Illinois, the son of the late William and Elizabeth (McIntyre) Taylor.

Jim married Susan Johnson on September 25, 1983. Together, they shared 42 years of marriage and 48 years of cherished memories, love, and laughter.

He spent 35 years as an over-the-road truck driver—a career he took great pride in. Earlier in life, Jim also worked in logging and as a deckhand on river barges. He had a lifelong passion for fast engines and loud cars, especially enjoying his time driving stock cars. But more than anything, Jim treasured time spent with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children: Ty (Vickie) Johnson of Jerseyville, Nita Taylor of Alton, Joey Brackett of Bunker Hill, and Sharron (Greg) Scoggins of Shipman; five grandchildren: Tyler and Carson Johnson of Jerseyville, Cassandra (Jeremy) Cope of Jerseyville, Alicia (Scotty) Miller of Jerseyville, and Jimmy Taylor of Alton; three great-grandsons: Bentley, Charley, and Keenan; a special nephew, Patrick (Judy) Johnson; and many extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Brackett.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m., Saturday July 12, 2025 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
