August W. "Butch" Oberlohr, 83 passed away peacefully at 11:50 pm on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at his residence, with his family by his side.
He was born on November 29, 1942 in St. Louis, MO to August P. and Stella (Bronczyk) Oberlohr.
He married Phyllis Green on December 11, 1971 in Alton. She survives.
Butch worked as a Crane operator for Laclede Steel for 31 years. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Butch enjoyed fishing, gardening, and just spending time outdoors. In his spare time, he could be found building his Lionel Model Train collection with those closest to him. Above all, he loved his family and cherished time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Butch is survived by his children, Diane (Joe) Nickle of Tempe, Arizona, Kenneth (Carol) Oberlohr of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Kelly Klein of Alton, and Matthew (Theresa) Oberlohr of Godfrey; three siblings, Carol Ann Slinkard of Florissant, Missouri, Stanley (Bonnie) Oberlohr of St. Charles, Missouri, and Thomas Oberlohr of Hazelwood, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Aaron, Ayla, Kristen, Mary Clare, Coty, Alec, Molly, Noahe, Matt Jr, and Sabrina; and seven great-grandchildren, Brooke, Paisley, Jaxon, Lyla Mae, Felicity, Alanna, and Ronin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Stella Oberlohr; a sister, Rose Mary Whitworth; a brother, Dennis Oberlohr; a son, Butchie, and a great-grandson, Onyx.
In keeping with Butch's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Elias, Kallal, & Schaaf Funeral Home has been trusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton.
