It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary M. Burger, a beloved mother, friend, and dedicated nurse, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24th, 2026, at the age of 87. A resident of Bethalto, Illinois, Mary was born on Monday, July 11th, 1938, to Harold and Jessie Hyde, both of whom preceded her in death.

Mary was a dedicated and compassionate nurse whose kindness and expertise touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues during her long tenure at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Illinois. Her unwavering commitment to her profession and the well-being of others was evident to all who knew her. She carried a gentle spirit and a genuine care for those around her, making a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Beyond her professional life, Mary was a cherished member of her community and was deeply loved by her family and friends. Her warmth, wisdom, and humor will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She had a nurturing heart, always offering comfort and guidance to those in need.

Mary was a longtime member of Heartland Baptist Church, where her faith and devotion were important part of her life. She found great joy in her church family and serving others with a willing heart.

Mary is survived by her loving husband; Donald Burger, daughters and sons-in-law; Penny & Brian Pettit of Grove City, Ohio, Donna & Scott Hall of Alton, son and daughter-in-law; Karl & Becky Burger of Omaha, Nebraska, 11 grandchildren; Allison (Zachary) Chappelear, Zachary Pettit, Hadley Pettit, Madeleine (Joey) Herrmann, Miles Hall, Colin (Reilly) Hall, Mason Hall, Kage Burger, Kale Burger, Jesse Caudell,, Kiyah (Corey) Robinson, 6 great grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law; Paul & Carol Hyde of Jerseyville, sister; Elizabeth Hyde of Eldred. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire those who had the honor of knowing her.

A memorial visitation will be held at Gent Funeral Home in Alton on Saturday, June 27th, 2026 from 10am until the time of memorial service at 11am.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Gent Funeral Home & Cremation Services, who are supporting the family during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s memory to Mt Gilead Cemetery, reflecting her spirit of giving and care for others.

Mary’s life was a testament to love, service, and dedication. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
