Warren R. Steffen, 90, passed away at 9:49am on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 3, 1936, in Wood River, the son of the late Bert and Nelli (Christi) Steffen. He married the former Constance Lee “Connie” Kindle on June 25, 1960, in Roxana, and she passed away on January 23, 2022.
Survivors include a daughter and son in law: Tina and Tom Hackler of Rosewood Heights, four grandchildren: Lori Jo Hackler of Rosewood Heights, Mary Richter of Virden, Illinois, Tommy and Kali Hackler of Rosewood Heights, Ben Hackler of Rosewood Heights, three great grandchildren: Ella, Brylee, Jameson, a sister: Virginia Dake of Bethalto, a brother in law and sister in law: Paul “Buzz” and Cindy Kindle of Godfrey, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
A 1954 graduate of Roxana High School where he was the Homecoming King his senior year, Warren worked at Olin Winchester for over thirty years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the former New Hope Baptist Church in Rosewood Heights. He and his wife Connie enjoyed antiquing, the St. Louis Cardinals, and selling their “priceless treasures” at local antique shops. He enjoyed boating, skiing, and squirrel hunted in his earlier years. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Warren was preceded in death by three sisters: Berniece Fraser, Venida Shaw, Roberta Graham, his brothers: Howard, Eugene, Gerald, Eddie, and Walter “Wally” Steffen.
In celebration of Warren’s life, graveside services will be held at 2pm on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
