Gwendolyn Marie Calvert, 90, died at 7:15 p.m., Monday, October 12, 2026, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
She was born on September 16, 1936, in Kane, Illinois, the daughter of the late Odie Grant and Frances Mae (Estes) Woodring.
She married Everrett Eugene Calvert on November 11, 1951, in Saint Charles, Missouri, and together they were blessed with three children and many years of shared memories before his death in 2013.
Gwendolyn devoted her life to her home and family, taking great pride in her role as a wife, mother and grandmother. She found joy in the simple comforts of everyday life, whether preparing a home-cooked meal, playing the piano or listening to the familiar melodies of old gospel hymns. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she enjoyed spending quiet moments reading her Bible.
She also enjoyed settling in to watch her favorite television programs, Gunsmoke and Days of Our Lives. Gwendolyn was a woman who took pride in her appearance and was rarely seen without her hair and makeup done just right. Above all, she treasured her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness throughout her life.
Surviving are two sons, Everrett Eugene Calvert, Jr. of Carrollton and James William Calvert of Eldred; two siblings, Barbara Cain of Jerseyville and Samuel Woodring of Medora; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl Denise Cooper; a daughter-in-law, Carmelyn Calvert; two grandchildren, Stephanie Jones and Michael Joseph Calvert; and four siblings, Marlin Woodring, Phyllis Vinyard, Suzie Glass and Janet Gettings.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Monday, October 19, 2026, at Kane Cemetery.
