Laura A. (Sawyer) Sigman, 98, formerly of Gillespie, died on October 13, 2026, at The Villas Senior Care Community in Sherman. She was born on April 19, 1928, in Staunton to Claude and Della (Van Doren) Sawyer and married William W. "Bill" Sigman on September 24, 1949, in Gillespie.
Mrs. Sigman was a member of the First Christian Church in Gillespie, having been active as a member of the ladies group and a volunteer in many capacities throughout the years. She was also a member of the Home Bureau and was employed as secretary to the Director of Nursing at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. Together with her husband, they owned and operated Sigman Insurance and Real Estate in Gillespie from 1968 to 1995.
Laura will be remembered for her faith, loving heart, and prayerful support of her family, church family, friends and neighbors.
Surviving are her two daughters, Donna (David) Misner of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Barbara (Brian) Frank of Springfield; four grandchildren, Rachel (Brent) Hickman of Springfield, Jordan (Deanna) Downey of Honolulu, Hawaii, Ryan Misner of Birmingham, Alabama, and Andrew (Ashley) Misner of Nappanee, Indiana; as well as eight great -grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Clyde Sawyer, and sister Dorothy Wilson.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Villas for their loving care for Laura over the last several years and to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care in her last days.
A graveside service will be held at a later date with burial in the Gillespie City Cemetery.
