Jeffery Scott McEvers, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 2, 2026, with his beloved wife by his side.
Jeff was born and raised in Jerseyville, Illinois, and was the son of the late Burl “Lucky” McEvers and the late Wanda (Woodward) Moore.
To say Jeff and his brothers—JR, Jay, and Joey—were close would be an understatement. They shared a special bond that words could hardly describe. Their already special family bond grew even stronger when their sisters, Julie and Tammy, joined their family. Jeff was preceded in death by his brother, John Matthew.
Jeff graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1982, where he met, and would go on to marry his high school sweetheart, Linda Sauerwein. The two were married on June 21, 1985, and built a beautiful life together. Linda truly cherished the 41 years of marriage shared together, and her love for Jeff can only be described as “unconditional”.
Jeff and Linda were blessed with two children, Jarrod and Jamie McEvers, and created a home that was always open to family and friends. Their house became the gathering place for Jarrod and Jamie and all their friends, because everyone knew they were always welcome. You could often find Jeff relaxing in his favorite chair watching TV while Linda was in the kitchen preparing one of her famous four-course meals.
Their greatest blessings grew with the arrival of two beautiful granddaughters, Penelope McEvers, daughter of Jarrod and Hayley McEvers, and LilleLynn McEvers, daughter of Jamie McEvers. In their later years, Jeff and Linda opened their hearts and home in an even bigger way, recently finalizing the adoption of LilleLynn, whom they had lovingly raised since birth.
Jeff spent 15 years working for Jersey County Rural Water, a job he took great pride in and genuinely enjoyed. He later worked for Rice Seed Company, where he eventually Retired.
Outside of work, Jeff enjoyed sports, especially baseball, and was a lifelong, devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Linda McEvers; his son, Jarrod (Hayley) McEvers, and their daughter, Penelope McEvers; his daughter, Jamie McEvers, and her daughter, LilleLynn McEvers; his brothers, Burl “JR” (Tina) McEvers, Robert “Jay” (Connie) McEvers, and Joey McEvers; and his sisters, Julie (Terry) Speagle and Tammy Moore.
Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2026 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Monday.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions toward a monument in Jeff’s honor would be greatly appreciated.
