Shirley McCormick

Shirley Marie McCormick, age 78, unexpectedly passed away and went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 15, 2012.

She was born on August 9, 1933 in Eldorado IL.  She was the daughter of the late Lloyd & Effie (Johnston) Kelly.  While growing up in Eldorado, she and her sisters were a part of the Kelly sisters singing group.  They were heard at the local church and on the radio.

She married Leonard Martin McCormick on February 15, 1957 in East Alton.  Leonard was Shirley’s true love and they spent all their time together.

Shirley was employed at Olin Corp as a secretary for 10 years and then worked at Denzer Office Supplies as an accountant for 10 years and then co-owned the Wood River Farm Fresh. She was a member of the Bethalto Church of God where at the time of her death was the oldest living member.  At the church she was involved with running the yearly Bazaar, where she kept everyone very organized going off without a hitch each year.  She loved to cook, spend time with her children and all her grandchildren.  Shirley would do anything for any one and she will be sadly missed.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jill & David Bruce of Aubrey, TX, a son, Jeff McCormick of East Alton, three grandchildren, Christopher and wife Melissa Bruce of Suquamish, WA, Aaron McCormick of East Alton and Daniel Bruce of Aubrey, TX, a great grandson, Eli Bruce of Suquamish, WA, a brother and sister-in-law, J.T.& June Kelly of Kincaid, IL and a brother-in-law, Jackie Cooper of Bethalto.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Jane Harrellson, Pat Cooper and Joan Unthank and one infant brother, Wendell Kelly.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Bethalto Church of God in Bethalto.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Bethalto Church of God with Pastor J.T. Kelly, Pastor David Bruce and Pastor Jeremy Robinson officiating.

Burial will be private at Rose Lawn Memories Gardens in Bethalto. 

Memorials may be given to the Make a Wish of Missouri foundation.
