Martha Fleming

Martha Helen Fleming, 89, died at 5:40 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville, after a period of declining health.She was born in Carrollton on March 30, 1923,one of three girls born to the late Arthur & Anna (Robinson) Powell.Martha was raised north of Carrollton in Woody, and graduated from Carrollton Community Unit High School.She married Lyman E. Fleming on April 5, 1944 in Jerseyville, and the two worked hand in hand on their family farm east of Jerseyville, where they raised their three children.  In their later years, they moved into Jerseyville, and the two shared 55 years of marriage before his death on Oct. 8, 1999.Surviving are her three children & their spouses, Gary & Donna Fleming of Wichita, Ks., Janet & Bruce Bland of Jerseyville, and Jane Hellrung of Jerseyville; six grandchildren & their spouses, Becky & Dave Swersky of Cleveland, Ohio, Erin Dorries of Wichita, Ks., Marc & Ginny Hellrung of Jackson, Ms., Jara & Michael Wong of Denver, Co., Amy & Zachary Varble of University City, Mo., Kevin Bland of St. Louis; 12 Great Grandchildren, Dylan, Emma and Jacob Swersky, Mary Dorries, Sarah, Nathan, and Mary Kate Hellrung, Keenan Ray & Vivian Wong, Calvin & Frances Jane Varble, and Chloe Bland.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son in law, Paul Hellrung; and two sisters, Mary Taylor and Joan Curnutt.Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.  The Rev. Dave Georgeff will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County in care of the funeral home
