John Kelly

John “Jack” W. Kelly, age 77, peacefully went to be with the Lord at 6:42 pm on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at his home.

He was born in Alton, IL on September 12, 1935, the son of the late Joseph J. Sr. & Alice E. (McKeon) Kelly.

He was the loving husband of Ruth D. (Oglesby) whom he married on February 12, 1970 and she survives.

Jack was co-owner with his brother Joe of ACME Bowl in Alton and Godfrey for 55 years retiring in 1986.  He then was employed at Owens IL machine shop for 20 years until 2006.  He was a former member of St. Ambrose and Sts. Peter and Paul and is presently a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  He was a lifelong member of the Alton Eagles #254 and Alton Knights of Columbus #460. He enjoyed watching sports, attending the Marquette Quarterback Club, playing cards, going to lunch on Wednesday with his friends and spending time with his family.

He is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Shannon & Rick Stilwell of Brighton, IL; two step sons and their spouses, Robert & Robyn Oglesby of Parker, CO and Rodney Oglesby of Boliver, MO; one grandson, Alex Stilwell; four step granddaughters and their spouses, Rachel & David Sissel, Kasey Oglesby, Kari Oglesby and Katie & Ken Soldink; five step great-grandchildren, Hannah, Joshua, Benjamin, Emma and Samantha Sissel; one brother, Joe Kelly of Alton and two nephews, Mark Kelly of Godfrey and Matthew Kelly of Alton.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

Memorials may be made to the Marquette Catholic High School.
