Alice Clayton

Alice D. (Meisenheimer) Clayton, 89 years old, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025, with her daughters, Daylinda and Cindy, by her side. She was the third of six children, born on August 25, 1935, to Harold and Louise (Bauer) Meisenheimer. She married Robert (Bob) G. Clayton on June 19, 1954, who preceded her in death.

Alice was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed sharing her time and skills by volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and room mother as she raised her children. She also loved spending time with her family and friends as well as tending to her flower gardens, feeding the birds, and traveling.

Following her husband’s death, Alice moved to an assisted living facility where she was affectionately given the title of Goodwill Ambassador. She regularly assisted other residents, always participating in community activities while often taking a leading role when needed. She brought her love of decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas and the Fourth of July, to her new home which brought tremendous joy and excitement to the residence and staff.

Alice is survived by her children: Daylinda (Craig) Pace, Cindy Oliver, and Robert G. Clayton Jr. She is also survived by her grandsons and their families: Joseph (Nina) Traylor, Clayton (Faith) Traylor, Joshua Traylor, Robert Clayton III, Ryan (Halley) Oliver, and Cody (Sara Kirk) Oliver. And a sister Marilyn (Larry) King.

She was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Zachary Traylor, Logan Traylor, Lillian Traylor, Xander Traylor, William Oliver and Lillian Oliver

Alice, in addition to her husband and parents, was preceded in death by her brothers and sister in law: Harold ((Bud) Alvie) Meisenheimer and John Michael Meisenheimer, in infancy; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Violet (Glen) Sacket and Laura (Ben) Bridgeman; a son-in-law Edward Oliver, and her in-laws: Robert (Bob) and Violet Clayton as well as two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Phyllis (Frank) Roggio and Carol (Bob) Dawson.

A memorial visitation is set for June 21, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, followed by the burial at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL. Memorials may be made to Hayner Library. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com.
