
Betty Marie Prough, 93, passed away peacefully at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Jersey County, Illinois on May 6, 1931, the daughter of the late Stephen Thomas and Lucy Selinda (Pellikan) Ringhausen.
Betty was a graduate of Jersey Community High School, and was a loyal and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville.
She was very detail oriented, as well as an organizer, which came in extremely handy as bookkeeper of Jersey Community Unit School District #100, where she was employed for 43 years before her retirement.
She married Kenneth Prough on September 21, 1951 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville, and their 73 year marriage has been blessed with many wonderful memories.
Although Betty and Kenny never had children of their own, they were blessed to have numerous nieces and nephews that loved and cared for them deeply.
She is also survived by a sister, Lucy Weller of Brentwood, Tn.; a brother, Kenneth Ringhausen of Dallas, Tx., (formerly of Wood River); and four sisters in-law, Sheila Ringhausen of Medora, Edna Ringhausen of Jerseyville, Barbara Foiles of Carrollton, and Betty Thiebaud of Dallas, Tx.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters in-law, Forest Ringhausen, Leo Ringhausen, Phillip Ringhausen, Hubert and Rosemary Ringhausen, and Jackie Ringhausen; and three sisters and brothers in-law, Beulah and Leonard Scranton, Irene and Jack Daniels, and Marjorie and William Woodman.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
Daniel Drainer will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville.
