
Brenda S. Langer, 85, of Godfrey, IL, passed away peacefully at 12:04 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Evercare in Jerseyville.
She was born on January 17, 1940, in Alton, IL, to James Garret and Marjorie (Glover) Hartley.
On July 8, 1961, she married Vernon Langer at North Alton Baptist Church, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, faith, and service.
Brenda lived a life marked by compassion, creativity, and dedication to her faith. She began teaching Sunday School at the age of 14 and continued to share her gifts through teaching painting classes at Beltline Church and Destiny Church, where she also helped with meal preparation. She was actively involved in the founding of First Southern Baptist (Hartland) and Agape Church and was a devoted member of Abundant Life Christian Church (ALCC) for over 25 years. Brenda and Vernon led the church’s kitchen ministry, preparing Wednesday meals and participating in numerous church plays.
Her commitment to community service extended beyond the church walls. Brenda proudly served as an election judge in Madison County for 21 years and worked for the U.S. Census Bureau. She had a deep love for travel, visiting 22 countries and 49 states. Her creative talents shone through in her passion for crafts and stained glass.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Vernon Langer; her son, Mark (Tammy) Langer; her cherished grandson, Jesse Taylor Langer; and her sister-in-law, Masie Hartley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Andy Marcec; her sisters, Marjorie (Ed) Lewis and MaryLou (Glen) Bock; and her brothers, William "Bill" Arthur Hartley and James (Irene) Hartley.
Visitation will be held at Abundant Life Christian Church on from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Pastor Joe Banks will officiate.
Inurnment will take place at a later date.
