Carole I. Augustin, age 89 of Pocahontas, IL, died Friday, June 20, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

She was born on Wednesday, December 4, 1935, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Alvin C. and Pauline E. (nee Messerli) Mettler.

On Friday, January 27, 1956, she married Burnell J. Augustin at Grantfork UCC in Grantfork, IL, who passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019.

Carole was born in Highland, Illinois and raised in Grantfork. She attended rural grade schools in the Highland School District, 5 of the 8 years her mother was her teacher. Carole graduated from Highland High School as co-valedictorian with the class of 1953. Upon graduation she worked for an attorney for several years.After her marriage to Burnell in 1956, he served in the military and Carole was able to join him at Fort Polk, LA. While she was with him, Carole held a civic service position in the medical supply office. When he was discharged from the service they returned to the dairy and grain farm where he had lived with his parents. While living on the farm, Carole cooked, helped with farming operations, had a vegetable and flower garden and raised their family. She had a seasonal position as a tax preparer, office supervisor and instructor at H & R Block for 37 years. She also held an enrolled agent certification with the IRS for most of those 37 years until her retirement.

Carole & Burnell belonged to Grantfork UCC their entire lives where she served as organist and choir director for over 70 years. She volunteered and enjoyed serving as pianist at several local nursing and retirement homes entertaining the residents. Carole served on the Hitz Home Auxiliary Board for several years as well.

  • Grandchild - Matthew E. Augustin, Grantfork, IL
  • Great Grandchild - Graham J. Geidel, Warrensburg, MO
  • Great Grandchild - Bennett M. Geidel, Warrensburg, MO
  • Great Grandchild - Maren E. Geidel, Warrensburg, MO

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, IL, with Rev. Nancy Brooks, pastor, Grantfork UCC, officiating.

Interment will be at Grantfork U.C.C. Cemetery in Grantfork, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dubois Center or Grantfork UCC.
