Dennis J. Cunningham, 66, died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2022, at OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center.
Born June 13, 1955, in Alton, he was the son of Howard and Myrl (Mathis) Cunningham. On February 10, 2007, he married the former Deborah Wells in Alton. She survives. He was a member of the North Alton Southern Baptist Church where he served as associate pastor. Dennis retired as a truck driver for Airgas and served as a volunteer for the Godfrey Fire Department. He was a member of the Serenity Sound duet with his wife, Deborah.
Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Mark Cunningham of Brighton, a daughter, Susan Shipman (Derrick) of Rosewood Heights, and two step-sons, Dathan Brooks of Edwardsville, and Travis Brooks of Springfield, MO, five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by three sisters, Jeannine Sackmann (Matt) of Jerseyville, Valeria Goodall (Pat) of Carrollton, IL, and Lesa Lee (Scot) of Wrights, IL, his mother and father-in-law, David and Mary Wells of Godfrey, and three brothers-in-law, David Wells (Iris) of Godfrey, Terry Wells (Julie) of Alton, and Kevin Wells (Penny) of Meadowbrook.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Cunningham.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2022, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Sonny Renken will officiate.
