Dorothy Chaplin

Dorothy Maxine Chaplin, 80, died at 6:55 a.m., Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Winchester, ll on Jan. 2, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Leonard "Dutch" and Hester (White) Benton.

For many years she was a resident of Kankakee where she was an Avon representative, and moved to Jerseyville in 1966, where she also continued with Avon.  While in Jerseyville, she worked at both the Montgomery Ward and Jersey Lumber Company, and was also an over the road truck driver for Carnation, where between her work and enjoyment, she has been to all 50 states.
She married Owen V. Chaplin in Pocahontas, Arkansas and they were the parents of four children & their spouses, whom also survive, Teresa & Larry Muntz of Jerseyville, Dennise & Don Crotchett of Carrollton, Kerry & Karen Chaplin of Jerseyville, and Rhonda & John Barnes of Jerseyville; five grandchildren & their spouses, Jacinda Jones of Jerseyville, Tammy & Ted Bugger of Grafton, Amber & Brad Blackorby of Jerseyville, Billy Ray & Jackie Burton of Jacksonville, Fl., and Desire'e Zimmerman of Jerseyville; 10 Great Grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Benton of Springfield, Mo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Miller.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday.  Rev. Larry Hayes will officiate.

Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the Cruiseaders Foundation, an organization formed to assist children with autism, in honor of Maxine's great grandson, Cruise Blackorby, or to the Alzheimers Association.
