
Elizabeth “Betty” L. Wieland, nee Mick, 90, of Smithton, IL, formerly of Belleville, IL, born September 7, 1934, in St. Louis, MO, to Bernard and Marie, nee Richards, Mick, and died Saturday, July 5, 2025, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.
Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, always putting her family first. She graduated from St. Teresa Academy, East St. Louis, in 1952 and enjoys lunch with her classmates several times a year. After marriage, Betty became a homemaker and was a cub scout den mother and an assistant girl scout leader. Later in life, she sold real estate for several agencies. Betty was an avid gardener and belonged to three local garden clubs, District 5, Garden Clubs of Illinois, and National Garden Club. She was also a member of the Smithton Senior Center and the PSOP of Belleville. She loved many crafts and hobbies, especially painting, wood carving, wood burning, playing cards, travelling, and staying active.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Dr. Charles G. Wieland, whom she married on May 21, 1960, and who died on August 23, 2011; her parents, Bernard and Marie, nee Richards, Mick; a grandchild, Jacob Thomas Wieland, in infancy; her brother, Richard (Elizabeth) Mick; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Muffler.
Surviving are her three children, Michael (Ronda) Wieland of Bluford, IL, Jean Marie (Jeff) Stuckey of Collinsville, IL, and Gregory Thomas Wieland of Freeburg, IL;
ten grandchildren, Michael Wieland Jr., Sherri (Jonathan) Szemansco, Westley (Sharon) Wieland, Emily Wieland, Elizabeth (Jesse) Coyle, Melissa (Mike) Soriano, Gabe Stuckey, Sam Stuckey, Dalton (Brooke) Wieland, and Macy (Eric Webster) Wieland; six great-grandchildren, Brianna, Heidi, and Kyle Squillace; Julian and Alicia Soriano; and Petra Szemansco; a step great-grandchild, Hunter; a sister, Marian Muffler; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, IL.
Burial will be held at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
