Gerald Walker, 86 died at 3:10 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2019 passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Born May 30, 1932 in Alton, he was the son of Claire and Ruth (Hicks) Walker. Gerald graduated from Alton High School and studied Architecture and Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He was a member of the Bricklayer Union since July 1, 1950 and established his business, Gerald Walker Brick Contractor in 1963. Gerald enjoyed life to the fullest, spending time with family and friends, starting his day at Joe K’s to meet the guys and play the coffee game.
On July 12, 1974 he married the love of his life, Charlene Harrison Davenport in Alton. She survives. Also surviving are children; Jeff (Shannon) Walker of Alton, Jenny Walker Tullier of Atlanta, GA, David (Lou Ann) Walker of Troy, MO, Robert (Cathy) Walker of Grants Pass, OR, Stephen (Meaghan) Walker of Godfrey, Janet (Bill) Mundy of Alton, Ed (Patty) Davenport of Holiday Shores, and Ron (Lindsay) Davenport of St. Louis, MO. 32 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one sister, Carolyn Gibbons of Alton, two brothers, Ed Walker of Alton, and Stanley Ash of St. Louis, MO, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Irvin of Prattville, AL. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Catherine Harrison, brother-in-law Fred Irvin, and son-in-law Chris Tullier. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019. Reverend Roger Bruce will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to River of Life Community Church or The Lucy Haskell Playhouse Fund.
