Jerald James Runde, 71, of Gillespie, IL, died at his residence on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
He was born February 13, 1955, in Osage, IA to Robert Runde & Jeanette Northouse Runde. He was retired after having been an over the road truck driver.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading books, and was a lifetime learner. He especially loved Mother Earth News and DIY books. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed building things and creating solutions. On sunny days, you could find him in a straw hat and a good Hawaiian shirt enjoying the breeze in a lawn chair in the front yard, fishing, or taking a cruise on his motorcycle. He was the most helpful and humble person to everyone around him.
He had a love for music, especially a good guitar rift, but most enjoyed watching Jason on stage with a guitar in his hands over the years. The blues and Willie Nelson both held a very special place in his heart. In the words of Lynyrd Skynyrd, he was a “simple kind of man.” He loved his chocolate milk and a good breakfast, as long as no vegetables were involved. Meat and potatoes, please. An avid collector of random things. He loved animals and was the best caregiver for them, especially his beloved pig, Wilbur.
Jerry was the prototype for being a “Girl Dad” and he set the bar high. He was proud of all his children, but especially Katelyn and her journey through school as she continues working to achieve her dreams and would tell anyone who would listen about her grit and determination.
He was a truly special person-deeply loved and adored by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence brought comfort, laughter, strength, and warmth to every room he entered. Whether through his kindness, wisdom, sense of humor, or the quiet ways he showed his love, he left a lasting impression on the hearts of his family and friends. To those who loved him most, he was more than a father; he was a steady source of guidance, support, and unconditional love. His memory will forever be cherished, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in all his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Jason (Carey) Runde of Shipman, IL, Lisa Plough of Edwardsville, IL, Maisie (Ethan Newton) Kaylor of Brussels, IL, Katelyn Runde of Hartford, IL, grandchildren, Drew (Ellie) Runde, Claire Runde, Tristan Plough, Julian Plough, Colby Plough, Adin Newton, Millie Newton, brother, Denny (Cindi) Runde of Mason City, IA. Jerald was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Jada Plough and niece, Mickey Runde.
