John “JB” “Bud” Dale Brakeville, 89, passed away with family by his side on July 13, 2026, in Alton, IL.
John was born on June 3. 1937, in Alton, IL to Walter Keith and Edna Frances (Klunk) Brakeville.
He married Susan “Susie” Springman in Alton, IL on April 28, 1973. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2011.
John was a long-time member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton, IL. He was a proud member of the United States Army Reserves. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling, and going to the casinos. He enjoyed cooking in the Army Reserves. He was a proud member of the Owl’s club, Alton Eagles #254, Alton Moose Lodge, many different card and poker clubs. He was known for his pursuit of free chicken wings.
He is survived by his special friend, Elizabeth Ann Miller of Godfrey, IL; a brother, Larry J. Brakeville (Karen) of Alton, IL; sister, Mary F. Cuvar of Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Roxanne M. Brakeville; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Walter K and Edna F. (Klunk) Brakeville; his wife, Susan “Susie” S (Springman) Brakeville; brother, Dr. Robert “Bob” Brakeville; sister, Margie A. Kincaid; and brother-in-law, George E. Cuvar.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral home in Godfrey, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton, IL. Father Nathan Marzonie, OMV, will officiate.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey, IL.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
