Kathryn Alice Sandberg, 86, passed away at 12:48 pm, Monday, August 3, 2026 at her residence. Born on June 5, 1940, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Ernest and Anna Nelson.
She married her high school sweetheart, Phillip Sandberg on March 20, 1959. He passed away on March 25, 2019. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Jim Thompson of White Hall, one son and daughter-in-law, craig and Stephanie Sandberg of Alton. Eleven grandchildren, Tiffany (Billy) Daniels, Jeffrey Daniels, Katelyn (Brian) Gilbert, Lukas (Jayla) Thompson, Taylor, Christian and Ethan Sandberg, Eric and Kevin Wilen, Samantha and Leahna Starr. Seven great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Karen Ege of Moline, IL, and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Herman Nelson.
Per her wishes, her body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, August 14, 2026, 9:00 am until till time of memorial service at 10 am,. at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. Memorials may be given to Operation Children Child in care of Calvary Baptist Church, Alton.
