Lanny Wayne Woll, 67, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Born on June 3, 1958, in Granite City, he was the beloved son of Ray Ted Woll and the late Norma Jean (Lee) Woll.
A proud patriot and dedicated soldier, Lanny retired from the United States Army after years of faithful service, including his impactful work as a recruiter. Through his time in uniform, he cultivated not only a deep sense of duty but also lifelong friendships and skills that defined his character, most notably his remarkable marksmanship and steadfast reliability.
Lanny was, at heart, a true outdoorsman. He found peace and purpose in nature, whether casting a line, setting up camp under the stars, or simply soaking in the quiet beauty of the world around him. His love for the outdoors was only matched by the generosity of his spirit. Lanny never met a stranger and never hesitated to offer a helping hand. His warmth, humor, and humility left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
He will be remembered as a loving son, devoted brother, proud uncle, and loyal friend. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and kindness into countless lives.
In addition to his mother, Lanny is now reunited with his brothers, Michael and Larry Woll, and his niece, Emily Rozell who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his father, Ray Woll of Granite City, IL; siblings, Debra Hendrix of Rolla, MO, Gregory (Mary) Woll of Granite City, IL, Ricky (Michelle) Woll of Collinsville, IL, and Kimberly (Jay) Rice of Sedalia, MO. Lanny was a cherished uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and a treasured friend to many more.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Lanny’s life will be held at a later date, allowing loved ones the opportunity to honor the remarkable man he was.
