
Marilyn Kay Fischer, 74, passed away at 2:53 a.m. at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Marilyn was born at home on December 9, 1950 in Wood River, IL. She was a daughter of the late Herman and Catherine E. (Peters) Smith.
Marilyn was a Registered Nurse with a Master’s Degree. After working over 30 years, she retired in December of 2015 while working at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
She was formerly married to Dennis L. Fischer who survives.
Marilyn was a member of Holy Angel’s Parish in Wood River, IL. She passionately loved her kids and grandkids. The joy she experienced while spending time watching her grandkids in various activities & sports was precious to her.
Also surviving are two daughters, April D. Mehl & Jason of Cuba, MO, Christine E. Stewart & Doug of Kansas City, MO; one son, Matt D. Fischer & Leann of Alton, IL; six grandchildren, Madelyn M. Mehl, Cooper F. Mehl, Lynna G. Fischer, Laci J. Fischer, Ellie N. Stewart, Lauren M. Stewart; one sister, Martina Scoggins & Paul of Wood River, IL.
Besides her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by an infant brother, John Nicholas Smith; one sister, Georgia Ann Brown.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River. A Prayer service will be held at 5 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Holy Angel's Parish in Wood River. Father Don Wolferd will officiate.
Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.
Memorials may be given to that of one’s choice.
