Mary Ellen Roemer, 84, passed away at 10:46 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.
She was born on July 21, 1939, in Jerseyville and was the daughter of the late George and Mary Whilmenia “Minnie” (Beiermann) Koster.
Mary grew up in Jerseyville and was a 1957 graduate of Jersey Community High School.
She began her working career at the Jersey County Courthouse, prior to accepting employment with National Maintenance, where she retired as Accounting Manager after dedicating 50 years of service to the organization.
She was a loving and devoted mother of five children, raising her family in Madison County, Illinois. She was devout in her Catholic Faith and enjoyed spending quality time with her family, quilting and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan.
Surviving are five children, Ellen (Mike) of Golden Eagle, Arthur (Kim) Roemer of Alton, Karen (Rick) Smith of Bethalto, Charlie (Crystal) Roemer of Godfrey and Mary Vatole of Cottage Hills; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; as well as a sister, Virginia Steinacher of Carrollton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher Roemer; two great grandchildren, Nathan and Matthew; a son in-law, David Vatole and a brother in-law, Pete Steinacher.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until time of Funeral Services at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024 Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey or to the MDS Foundation.
