Matthew Marshall

Glen Carbon 06/23/2025

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Matthew Allen Marshall, 29, on June 23, 2025. Matthew was born in Bradenton, Florida, and though his time on this earth was far too short, he lived it with passion, kindness, and a generous heart.

Matthew was a proud graduate of Florida State University. He pursued his career with dedication and integrity, having worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Komatsu in Peoria, IL, and more recently at CK Power in St. Louis, MO. Matthew liked to say he worked on the “really big trucks” at Komatsu, and he was thrilled to be working on diesel engines at CK Power. He was extremely proud to have solved and improved design issues in his first three months with the company.

Matthew’s fun-loving spirit and warm smile brought so much joy. He had a deep love of sports from a very young age. He loved all of the Tampa Bay teams—but he had a special love for the Tampa Bay Lightning and the sports teams of his alma mater: the Florida State Seminoles. In his youth, Matthew played baseball, football, hockey, and soccer. Soccer was his greatest enjoyment, as he played from age 5 through high school competitively, and he continued with recreational play through college and into adulthood. Most of his years playing were as goalie—another representation of his energetic drive to compete and play hard. He enjoyed church softball during high school for several years with his dad. He also got involved in recreational pool, golf, and softball with friends in Peoria. Michayla and Matthew met at a hockey game and continued their shared passion for the sport with both the Lightning and the St. Louis Blues.

Whether cheering on his teams, making his friends and family laugh, or sharing a quiet moment with them, Matthew embraced life. Matthew was a lover of music from a very young age. He learned to play guitar at age 8, continued with trombone at King Middle School and Manatee High School, and took opportunities to enjoy many live concerts of his favorite bands. He had a great singing voice and would belt it out with the best of them—or sometimes just alone in the shower.

Matthew will be tremendously missed by his parents, David and Beth Marshall of Bradenton; his mother, Jennifer Marshall of Peoria, IL; his beloved siblings, Melanie Conner (Kevin) of Gainesville, FL, and Nolan Marshall (fiancée Kiara Freeman) of Lehigh Acres, FL; his partner, Michayla Payne of St. Louis, MO, and her daughter, Lennon (“Lemon”) Polaski. Matthew is also loved by his Grampa, Lester Masengale of Parrish, FL; aunts, uncles, and cousins including: Judith (Jose) Naranjo, Bob (Marilyn) Marshall, Melissa Clark (Greg, Wyatt, and Meghan), Kevin Marshall (Ashley and Bennett), Robby Marshall (Madison Begnaud), Carlos Moreno, Linda Wolf, Megan Earnest (Shane, Kensley, and Kellen), Kayce Wood (Troy, Alexia, Jacob, and Jackson), Steve (Mary) Masengale, Amy Bouwer (Dustin and Hannah), Susan (Forrest) Lockliear, Brooks Johnson (Ashley, Zack, Bennett, Ashton, and Everlee), and Heather Lucas (Richard, Mason, and Gabe). Matthew had many other extended family members who love and support him.

We believe Matthew is now receiving heavenly love from his Aunt Jo Ann Moreno; paternal grandparents, Donna and Emil Marshall; maternal grandparents, Rene’ and Madeline Langlois and Dot Masengale; Uncle Nelson Marshall; and Uncle Bud Gillett.

Matthew’s presence in the lives of those who loved him will never be forgotten. His absence leaves a profound void, but his memory will be held in our hearts with deep love and gratitude forever.

A Gathering will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 3-4PM at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209 with a Celebration of Matthew’s life to follow at 4PM.
