Michael Allen Hesterberg, 71, passed away at 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Alton, IL.
He was born on November 30, 1954 in Alton, IL. to Walter F. and Arleen (Harvill) Hesterberg.
After helping his dad, Walter, for many years working a trash route, Michael became a resident of Beverly Farm Foundation in 1997. He first lived in Group Home 6, moving to Group Home 5 in 2006. The other residents in the group homes were his extended family. He loved to go out on field trips, go fishing, and go shopping with them. While at Beverly Farm, he did custodial work and helped make key chains until 2026. To relax, he loved to sit in his recliner in the lounge and watch TV, especially Western Movies. He would often borrow things from other residents and thought that was funny. He loved watches. You could often find Michael serving at the Zion Lutheran Sausage Supper, with a big smile. Faith Lutheran Church is where he was a member for the last five years, and loved to have coffee and donuts there. He will be highly missed by all who knew him, he was very well liked, good natured, polite, and always very appreciative.
Along with his mother, Arleen, he is survived by two sisters, Deborah Hesterberg, and Donna (Keith) Craig; two nephews, Dallas Boswell, and Brandon Jones; as well as many great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 10 am until time of service at 12 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Pastor Tim Appel and Pastor Brandon Metcalf will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
