Patrick Aaron Costello, 67, passed away Saturday April 25th, 2026 at his home. Born Nov. 13, 1958 in St. Louis, he was son to Joan (McDonald) Costello and Maurice Costello.
Pat was preceded in death by both parents and sister, Marie Schroeder. He married the love of his life, Letha M. Allen, Feb 16, 1985 at the former St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wood River, IL, now Holy Angels Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, he is survived by his children, Kyle (Laura) Costello of Peoria, IL, Timothy Costello of St. Louis, MO, Jonathan (Therese) Costello of Madison, WI, Olivia (Chris) Burdin of Metamora, IL, Lily (Joe) Kopp of Lodi, WI, and Christian Costello of Phoenix, AZ; 6 grandchildren, Savannah, Waylon, River, Jace, Ethan and Eloise; a brother, Paul Costello, and brother-in-law, Gary Schroeder; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Patrick received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology and completed master's degrees from Webster University in Arts and Business Administration. He focused most of his career in safety across many industries and last held a position as a Healthcare Engineer for Jefferson Barrack VA Medical Center. He was an active member and held positions in the American Society of Mechanical Engineering. His value of education carried over to teaching others at SWIC, ICC, and Spoon River.
Pat had a big heart, with a love for animals and nature, but loved most being a proud father, and “Pa Pa” to his grandkids. He was always thinking of his family. His grandkids’ excitement was clear when he walked into the room, and Pat was never far behind them, making sure they were safe and happy to explore and play. Pat was passionate about the outdoors and athletics. He spent many late evenings or early weekend mornings with IHSA soccer refereeing. He was strong in his faith in God, a dedicated Catholic, and served in his local Knights of Columbus and knighted to the 4th degree.
Visitation will be 4-7p.m. Friday, May 1, at Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton, IL. A mass will be celebrated by Father Donald Wolford on Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River, IL. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery near Bunker Hill, IL.
