Ronald D. Smith, age 84, passed away Friday, November 13, 2020 in his home with his family by his side.
He was born December 10, 1935, in Wood River, the son of Lenton and Ida Lucille (Stormer) Smith. He married Janette Binkley on April 17, 1954 in Wood River and she survives.
Ronald and Janette were members of Cornerstone Church in Bethalto. He worked at Roberts Ford for over 40 years. Ronald loved NASCAR and sprint car racing. He enjoyed trapshooting, and in his younger days was known for his softball playing skills. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Janette; he is survived by a daughter and her husband, Kimberly and Mark Killebrew of Bethalto; two sisters, Sandie and Jack Mizell, and Jean Ellifritz; two grandchildren, Molly and David Kasich, and Abby Killebrew and her significant other, Adam Carmichael; and many other relatives and numerous friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A drive through visitation will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2020 from 10:00 am until Noon, followed by a private service at Cornerstone Church in Bethalto with Pastor Erik Scottberg officiating.
Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Memory Garden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Latin America Child Care (Child Hope).
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements.
