Alton Underground Railroad Exhibit and Lovejoy Day Events Discussed

November 6, 2026 | 176 views |

Our Daily Show talks with Lacy Spraggins-McDonald about Alton’s Underground Railroad exhibit at City Hall and upcoming Lovejoy Day events. The traveling exhibit, organized by Looking for Lincoln, is open during City Hall hours through the end of the year; the Hayner Genealogy Library has also prepared a related display and programs.

The discussion highlights the November 9 noon ceremony at the Lovejoy Monument in Alton Cemetery, with descendants of Owen Lovejoy participating. A 7 p.m. library program with the descendants is full, but callers can ask to join the wait list. Lacy also reflects on researching Alton’s history and the people who helped sustain the library and community.
