Susan Christine Holik, 64, died suddenly at 11:31 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017 at her home in Elsah.
She was born on January 5, 1953 in Granite City, one of five children born to the late Leroy Donald and Marie Helen (Nance) Winnie.
Susan grew up in Granite City and was a 1971 graduate of Granite City High School.
Shortly after graduating High School she married Stephen Ray Holik on July 3, 1971 at the Mitchell Baptist Church and together they shared in nearly 45 years of marriage which blessed them with a daughter and in time with two granddaughters before his death on May 15, 2016.
Susan and her family spent many years residing in Granite City where she was actively involved in both the community and her daughter’s activities, serving as Brownie Troop Leader as well as a CPR Instructor with the American Red Cross.
The family later relocated to Elsah where she has resided for the past 27 years and spent many hours volunteering at the Village of Elsah Museum.
While she experienced many struggles in her life, her love for her family never wavered. Her granddaughters were a source of constant joy and light in her life and they meant the absolute world to her.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Angela Holik-Clarkson and Jim Clarkson; two granddaughters, Jillian Christine and Alexia Marie Clarkson, all of Elsah; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna & Leonard Johnson of Granite City; a sister-in-law, Melva Winnie of Granite City; a brother-in-law, Mitch Mitchell of Collinsville; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, “Bub” and Ernie Winnie and a sister, Clara Mitchell.
Per her wishes, cremation rights have been accorded and no services will be held.
Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
