Norman Baalman

Norman Baalman, 75, passed away at 7:20 am Tuesday August 15, 2017 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab.

 

He was born on July 30, 1942 in Meppen, IL the son of Raymond Carl & Wilhelmina (Kronable) Baalman.

Norman married Diann Toppmeyer on April 20, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brussels. She survives

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Norman was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Cemetery Board, a member of the South Calhoun Knights of Columbus, volunteer fire fighter with the Richwood Fire Protection District, a board member and President of the Calhoun Unit 40, and EMT with the Calhoun County Ambulance, a member of the Local 1008 carpenter’s union in Louisianna, MO where he worked his entire career with Millstone Bangert families.  He worked as a farmer with livestock and grain at their farm in Meppen, and avid sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching his kids play sports and his and then his ultimate pleasure was watching his grandkids play sports.  He loved the outdoors and especially loved coyote hunting and his CB name was “Biggin.”

He is survived by his wife, Diann Baalman of Meppen, one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry (Tony) Friedel of Hardin, three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel (Michelle) Baalman of Grafton, Gary (Carrie) Baalman of Meppen and Richard (Julie) Baalman of Hardin, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, John (Jan) Baalman,

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Mary Baalman.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Friday August 18, 2017 at Gress, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Meppen.

Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brussels.
