Catherine Rutledge

Brighton 07/03/2024

Catherine Ann Rutledge, 89, passed away at 2:35 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Jerseyville, surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born on the family homestead in Batchtown, Illinois on January 13, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Fred and Helen (Hillen) McGee. Catherine grew up in Batchtown and was a graduate of Brussels High School.

For over 40 years, she was employed as a Medical Transcriptionist at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Prior to her retirement, the last 10 years of career were spent working with Dr. James Segrist in Alton.

Catherine centered her life around two simple, yet profound principles: Faith and Family.

She raised her family in Brighton, where she resided for many years, and was a longtime and faithful member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

She enjoyed playing bingo, working puzzles and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. It was time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, however, that brought her the greatest joys that this world could offer.

Surviving are three children, Rosemarie Hand of Brighton, Jim (Sherry) Rutledge of Brighton and Patty (PJ) Barten of Jerseyville; twelve grandchildren, Cris (Emilee), Jamie, Jimmy (Kerri), Heather, Jameson, Missy (Kevin), Jessica (Brandon), Shawn, Stephen (Paige), Aaron (Megan), Sarah and Pete; ten great grandchildren, Alex, Caden, TJ, Kaylee, Holly, Gunner, Asher, Clara, Hadley and Anderson, with two more on the way; as well as a brother, Lester MCGee.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha Johnes and Sister Catherine McGee; as well as three brothers, Bernard, Jerome and Fritz McGee.

She will be laid to rest with a private service at St. Barbara Parish Cemtery in Batchtown.

For those desiring, memorials are suggested to St. Barbara Catholic Church in Batchtown or to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville has been entrusted with arrangements.
