WHAT: Exhibition of artwork by children and teens in residential and therapeutic art programs and art therapists who support them

WHEN: May 5-May 26, 2023. Art Therapist Art Opening Reception: Friday May 5th, 6-8 and Student Opening Reception Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 1-3pm

ST. LOUIS, MO - April 19th, 2023 - For 25 years now, the 'Arts in Residential and Therapeutic Settings with Youth’ (ARTSY) Exhibition has been a way to showcase the artwork of many youth in the area who use art-making as a way to express themselves.

The 25th Annual ARTSY Exhibition will be held at the Jacoby Arts Center, in Alton, Illiinois, featuring original artwork created by children and teens in residential and therapeutic art programs and the art therapist art.  Work will be displayed from children in 14 Missouri and Illinois organizations, the exhibition shows the wide range of emotions that children and teens can express with paint, pencils and paper and 3-Dimensional materials. The artwork “speaks” for the child or teen and communicates the power of their own experience, especially what the artist might not be able to put into words.

Sponsored by the Missouri Art Therapy Association (MATA), the show is intended to allow the broader community the chance to become aware of how successful these art programs are at influencing and helping to change the lives of those who participate.  The exhibition will also acknowledge and provide reinforcement to those involved for their participation in a positive activity. A few youth develop promotional materials for the show using their own featured art pieces. Other identified youth will be given the opportunity to perform at the opening reception in the form of singing, playing a musical instrument, or dancing.

Jacoby Arts Center (JAC), located at 627 E. Broadway, Alton, IL 62002. The JAC is open Wednesday- Saturday 10am to 5pm, Sunday from 12-4pm, and is closed Monday and Tuesday. For more information, visit www.jacobyartscenter.org or call 618-462-5222.
